Overview

Loved by locals and sought after by visitors, Sweet Mother's Kitchen takes good care of everyone at the table. Walking into a Wellington café to find an eclectic range of mismatched furniture, art and cutlery isn't exactly a novel concept. However, there's something about Sweet Mother's crazy wall-mounted collection that feels fresh; and if you're hungry, you're in for some deliciously unique feasting.

Sweet Mother's menu sees New Orleans staples fused with Mexican snack food. Yeah, we know, amazing. What's more, breakfast is served until 5pm, making those standard earlier cafe cut offs seem suddenly cruelly detrimental to your lazy Sunday. Our picks from the brunch menu would be the breakfast burrito — filled with scrambled eggs, black beans and melted cheese — and huevos rancheros, both served with salsa and guacamole because it's never too early. Lunching? Go for the pulled pork po boy. Down for dinner? The 'Boom Boom' Chicken with homemade BBQ sauce is finger lickin' good.

Drinks-wise, if you can stomach nearly a litre of milk with your meal you can't go past the milkshakes. Blended and served in an old school metal mixer, they're massive on size and flavour. If you're like us and can't figure out what 'caravan' flavour is on your own, it's caramel and vanilla. Nice.
